The cost of not knowing the problem

Most organisations know something is wrong. Delivery is slower than it should be. Work queues unpredictably. Timelines slip. But when asked where the bottleneck actually sits — not the symptom, the root cause — few can answer with confidence.

The result: effort is spent solving the wrong problems. Teams are reorganised to fix coordination issues that turn out to be decision latency problems. Tooling is replaced to solve flow problems that turn out to be dependency problems. Months pass. Cost accumulates. The underlying issue remains untouched.

A diagnostic removes the guesswork. It identifies exactly which dimensions of your delivery system are creating the most drag — then tells you what to do about it first.

What the diagnostic covers

Four dimensions assessed, measured, and mapped against comparable organisations

Delivery Flow

Cycle time, throughput, work in progress, and bottleneck identification. We measure how work moves end-to-end and where it stalls.

Dependency Health

Cross-team dependency rate, coordination overhead, and escalation gaps. We map where dependencies are creating invisible queues.

Decision Velocity

Decision cycle time, governance overhead, and escalation clarity. We identify where decisions are slowing execution.

AI & Automation Readiness

Automation opportunity assessment, current tool adoption, and efficiency gap analysis. We quantify where AI could remove overhead.

What's included

Fixed-fee engagement covering all discovery, analysis, and recommendations

  • Stakeholder workshops with delivery leads, COO, and finance representative
  • Structured data collection and flow metric analysis
  • Bottleneck and dependency mapping across teams
  • Decision latency assessment and governance audit
  • AI readiness audit with automation opportunity scoring
  • Written recommendations report with prioritised action plan
  • Presentation of findings to executive team

The process

Four phases across 4–6 weeks

1

Scoping

Initial conversation to define scope, agree fee, and schedule workshops

2

Workshops

3–4 sessions with delivery leads, stakeholders, and leadership

3

Analysis

Data collection, flow mapping, bottleneck identification, and opportunity scoring

4

Report

Written recommendations, exec presentation, and prioritised action plan

What results look like

A recent enterprise banking engagement

Enterprise Banking · Risk & Compliance Delivery
33 days 10 days

Problem: Delivery was running at 33 days end-to-end with no visibility into bottlenecks. Leadership knew work was slow but couldn't identify where the delays were accumulating or what to fix first.

Action: Introduced flow metrics across the delivery pipeline. Mapped systemic bottlenecks — the majority of delays were sitting in three specific approval gates and one cross-team handoff. Delivery governance and operating rhythms improved.

Result: Flow time dropped from 33 days to 10 days within 90 days of the diagnostic. Delivery speed and predictability improved significantly — and the leadership team had, for the first time, a clear picture of what was driving both.

"I reduce delivery cycle time by identifying and removing systemic bottlenecks across teams."

Investment

Most clients see measurable improvement within the first quarter following the diagnostic. The typical return significantly exceeds the engagement fee.

$15,000 – $35,000 AUD
Fixed fee · 4–6 weeks · Excl. GST

Scope determines the price within this range — primarily team size, number of delivery streams, and workshop requirements. The exact fee is agreed in writing before work begins. No hourly billing. No scope creep surprises.

What affects the fee:

  • Organisation size (50–150 people: typically $15,000–$22,000 · 150–500 people: typically $22,000–$35,000)
  • Number of delivery teams and streams in scope
  • Number of stakeholder workshops required
  • Whether an executive board presentation is included

Pilot engagements

A limited number of pilot engagements are available at $8,000–$15,000 AUD for organisations willing to provide an anonymised case study following the engagement. Pilot availability is limited. Enquire during the scoping call.

Common questions

We've tried consultants before and got a report that sat on a shelf. How is this different?
The output is designed to be acted on, not filed. Every recommendation is prioritised by impact and feasibility — not comprehensiveness. And Phase 2 (AI automation implementation) exists specifically to implement the top recommendations if you choose to proceed. Most clients use the report in one of three ways: implement recommendations internally, bring us back for Phase 2, or use it to brief an internal programme team.
How do you run the workshops without disrupting our team?
Workshops are designed to be efficient — typically 3–4 sessions of 90 minutes each, spread across 2–3 weeks. We work around your delivery cycle, not against it. Sessions are scheduled to minimise disruption, and the data collection phase happens asynchronously between workshops.
Can you work with our specific tooling stack?
Yes. The diagnostic is tool-agnostic. We have worked across Jira, Linear, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and custom tooling. The methodology adapts to what you use. The flow patterns we identify exist regardless of which system tracks them.
What happens after the recommendations report?
You own the report entirely. Most clients use it in one of three ways: implement recommendations internally, bring us back for Phase 2 AI automation, or use it to brief an internal programme team. There is no lock-in. The 30-day follow-up call is included to answer any implementation questions.
How do you handle our data and confidentiality?
All engagements begin with a mutual NDA. We do not require access to production systems or customer data. Any data shared is handled under our standard confidentiality agreement. A copy is available on request before any conversation. For regulated industries, we have additional data handling protocols in place.
How quickly can we get started?
Typically 2–3 weeks from scoping call to first workshop. The scoping call happens within a week of booking. Once the scope and fee are agreed, we schedule the first workshop session at your convenience. The full diagnostic runs 4–6 weeks from first workshop to final report presentation.
